Cooking Games - Cookie Quotes

If you have a set of cookie cutters in the shape of letters, you’re in business for this cooking game. Buy a package of sugar cookie mix and grab a rolling pin – we’re making cookies quotes!

Put the prepared cookie dough on a piece of wax paper and roll it out until the dough is about ¼” thick. Then use your cookie cutters to cut out the letters that spell out a particular message, such as “Happy Birthday” or “I Love You.”

Cut out the letters until you don’t have room left in your dough. Then, carefully remove the excess dough leaving the cookies on the wax paper. Use a spatula to move the cookies to a greased cookie sheet. You’ll have roll and repeat enough times to get all the letters, of course.

When everything is cut and on a cookie sheet, bake. After baking, let the cookies cool on a cooling rack while you assemble candy, sprinkles and icing. The best part of all cooking games is decorating the finished project, so arrange your cookies using icing on a piece of cardboard and decorate to your heart’s content. Present to a special someone and enjoy!

Flower Cookies

Want to treat your friends to something extra special? This cooking game is especially fun because you enjoy the final product almost as much as the ingredients!

Make a batch of sugar cookies using ready to bake dough or from scratch. Use a round cookie cutter or tin can to cut perfect circles in your cookies. This might mean you need to roll out the dough, you can just use the kind that comes in little circles already.

When the cookies are completely cooled off, spread a layer of icing on top of each. You can use food coloring to make your icing something fun like a pale blue or green if you’d like. Or you can use chocolate icing to make the flowers pop.

When the cookies are made and iced, grab a package of candy vines and a bag of M&Ms. Unwind the red candy vines until you have just one. Carefully lay the vine onto the cookie in a figure 8 pattern. You might need to cut off some excess. Then make another figure 8 on top of the first, but with the round parts fitting neatly between the first two. Now you should have a four-pedaled red flower.

Put one yellow M&M in the center of the flower (us ea bit of icing to secure it as needed.) Your flower can now be complete or you can use red M&Ms to fill in the petals if you’d like.

Learning from Cooking Games

There’s a lot to learn from cooking games. Sure, you might just think you’re perfecting your hamburger toss, but you might actually learn a bit more than you (and your parents) think you are:

You’re developing terrific hand-eye coordination. It’s true! Video games, especially ones that require speed will help to build very important hand-eye coordination. Next time your parents tell you to go to bed, simply let them know you’re practicing for the major leagues or your future career as a brain surgeon.

You’re getting great recipe ideas. Do you have any idea how much money Rachel Ray and Emeril are making? Every great chef has to get her start somewhere – why not learn in an enjoyable environment?

You’re learning to pace yourself. Instant gratification isn’t good for anyone. If you want to perfect the perfect pizza, it’s going to take a bit of heart and soul – and more than just a few seconds.

You’re learning how to kill time. Waiting for an important date or phone call? Why wear out yourself out twiddling your thumbs or pacing the room? Kill time the beneficial way – playing cooking games!
